Teaching

I teach adults and children, and am happy to teach both classical and/or jazz piano. I learnt to play classical piano as a child and by the time I was 18 had taken my Performance Diploma from the Royal College of Music. I was always attracted to jazz music and was keen to free myself from the written page, so have spent time learning to play jazz. Lessons can take either the traditional approach of learning to read from music, or we can explore jazz, understanding chords and modes and learning to improvise around them. In both cases we can incorporate musicianship and listening into the lesson, and we can play duets together and play along to tracks to simulate playing in a band.

If you are an instrumentalist or singer wanting to gain confidence and learn new repertoire then I offer sessions where I can accompany you and we can explore different pieces together and generally enjoy making music.

Lessons for adults are normally 1 hour long, and for children start at 1/2 an hour and increase as progress is made. Lessons and rehearsals generally take place at my house in Marlow where I have a beautiful Steingraeber upright piano.
